Juneau Arts & Humanities Council and Impassion Music Studio Announces Practice-a-Thon to Raise Funds for the New Juneau Arts & Culture Center (JACC)

The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council (JAHC) announces the Practice-a-Thon Fundraiser for the New Juneau Arts & Culture Center (JACC) to be held on Sunday, October 7th, 2018 at the JACC as part of the International Kids’ Music Day. This innovative way to generate support for the crucial New JACC project is the brainchild of longtime Juneau music teacher Sandy Fortier of Impassion Music Studio. Sandy’s commitment to youth musical education has touched many young lives and made Juneau a better place.

The Practice-a-Thon will take place from 10 am until 4 pm on Sunday the 7th, and is open to musicians of all ages who want to practice with their instruments and help support a worthy cause. Musicians can sign up here, and then can start collecting names and pledge amounts from their families, friends, and others in the community who support music education and Juneau’s collective efforts to build the New JACC. (Download the pledge form here.) Pledges may be for 15-minute increments, or in flat amounts for whatever amount of practicing each musician seeks to accomplish. Pledges can be pre-paid with cash, check, or credit card, or may be collected after the event by the practicing musician.

The Practice-a-Thon will be open to the public, so those who want to listen and take part in the fun are welcome to come to the JACC between 10 am and 4 pm on Sunday the 7th. For those seeking to practice piano, there will be two options: the grand piano in the Main Hall, and the upright piano in the JACC Gallery. There will be plenty of music stands, chairs, and other accoutrements necessary to make it possible for all those wishing to practice to do so. People are encouraged to bring cookies or other snacks to help sustain the practicing musicians.

Practice-a-Thon creator Sandy Fortier said, “I know from my years of teaching music how important it is for music students to develop strong habits of regular practice. I thought the Practice-a-Thon might make it possible for students to have more fun practicing, and to benefit a very worthy cause, the New JACC.”

Participants in and spectators at the Practice-a-Thon will also have the chance to Color the New JACC by painting a square in the large canvas depicting the new facility. This piece has been divided into small squares, and artists of all ages and experience levels can paint one in return for a modest donation in an amount of their choosing. New JACC representatives will be on hand to help people Color the New JACC and provide information about this important project.
